Deputy director of al-Nagila Hospital in Marsa Matrouh tests positive for COVID-19

CAIRO – 22 April 2020: Deputy director of al-Nagila Hospital in Marsa Matrouh governorate revealed that he was tested positive for Coronaviruse, COVID-19, and that he’s been quarantined in the hospital during the past week.

In a facebook page, Mohamed Allam said that his health condition is now more stable and that he expects to turn into negative after retesting again soon for the virus, which will allow him to go home.

“This is something expected to happen to every doctor working in front lines for COVID-19, I’ve been diagnosed from 4-6 days ago and not feeling sad or angry; however, I’m feeling much better and expected to go home soon” Allam stated.

He added that he didn’t reveal this information earlier on social media, because he wanted everyone to know “after the stabilizing of his health condition”.

On Tuesday, Egypt’s Ministry of Health announced recording 157 new coronavirus cases and 14 deaths.

According to Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed, the new cases raise Egypt’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 3490 and deaths to 264.

All positive cases are placed under quarantine at isolation hospitals, the spokesman said.

He added that 49 of those infected with coronavirus were discharged from hospitals after receiving the necessary medical care. The total number of recoveries so far reached 870.
Al-Nagila Hospital located in Marsa Matrouh Mediterranean governorate witnessed the quarantining of Egypt’s first confirmed case of COVID 19 in February.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced on February 15, that the first person tested positive for coronavirus in Egypt was quarantined in the Mediterranean city of Marsa Matrouh, northern Egypt.
