COVID-19 in Egypt: New 15 cases recorded among medical staff members

CAIRO - 25 April 2020: The number of Egyptian doctors who died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) rose to four people, while 15 new cases among medical staff were confirmed in a hospital on Saturday.

The Egyptian Medical Syndicate mourned the death of cardiologist Ashraf Adly, who died from the virus in Aswan hospital, Upper Egypt.

Recently, Banha hospital in Qalyubia governorate [Egypt’s Delat] announced that 15 doctors at the hospital were tested positive for the virus, noting that they got infected with the virus from a patient.

Two weeks ago, the syndicate announced the death of three Egyptian doctors and infection of 43 others nationwide. Two of the deceased doctors had contracted the virus after connecting infected people away from their workplaces, the syndicate added in the statement, noting that the number of infections among the medical staff members is likely to increase.

The Syndicate called upon the doctors to abide by the rules concerning the personal protective equipment (PPE) which is available in all hospitals, medical centers, the statement.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health issued certain protection rules for the medical staff members at the isolation hospitals. The doctors and nurses should keep enough distance while talking with anyone in the hospital, clean their personal stuff like the toothbrush and razors. Meanwhile, the hospital should be sterilized with disinfectants twice a day.

As yet, the COVID-19 cases in Egypt reached 4092 and deaths to 294. The number of coronavirus cases whose tests turned from positive to negative increased to 1417, including 1075 people who recovered from the virus.

On 22 April 2020, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged the medical staff to commit more to the preventive measures and the sterilization process amid the coronavirus crisis and paid tribute to the efforts of the medical sector.

?As the president attended the opening of a number of national projects east of the Suez Canal, he also urged Egyptians to stick to the preventive measures against coronavirus in order to avoid tougher scenarios.

Late March, the President ordered to boost the allowance of those working in the medical field by a 75 percent increase as a gesture of appreciation for their current efforts to contain the threat of coronavirus.
